About

Siobhan McKenna is a choreographer, dancer and teacher currently working in Melbourne/Naarm, Australia.

Siobhan grew up in the Bega Valley in NSW, on Yuin Country before moving to the city where she had the privilege of studying a BFA in dance at VCA, graduating in 2016. Her experience in dance spans working as a collaborating performer, choreographer, rehearsal director and both teacher or participant in various workshops, classes and residency programs.

Siobhan’s choreographic work has been supported by organisations and venues such as Sydney Dance Company, Lucy Guerin Inc., Dancehouse, Temperance Hall, The Substation, Dance Massive, Darebin Arts, The Gunpowder Trading Post and Critical Path, Australian Dance Theatre and the Tanja Liedtke Foundation and ImplusTanz (Vienna). Siobhan’s works ‘Utterance’ and ‘Rhythmic Fictions’ were both nominated for Best Choreography in the 2019 and 2022 Green Room Awards and ‘Utterance’ also received the Melbourne Fringe Festival’s 2017 Best Dance Award and Temperance Hall Award. In 2022, Siobhan was incredibly grateful to receive a fellowship from the late Chloe Munro AO and Lucy Guerin Inc and in 2024 Siobhan participated in the ATLAS scholarship program at ImpulsTanz (Vienna). In 2025 Siobhan was commissioned to create ‘Hush’ for Lucy Guerin Inc.’s PIECES program and also began working with Joel Bray Dance as a rehearsal director on his work ‘Monolith’ and a dancer for the national tour of ‘Garabari’.

To date, Siobhan's work has centered around exploring playful ways of integrating vocal sound, movement and language together to consider the fragility and multiplicity within communication.
